Up

I spend almost a year there covering two presidential elections, the first in 1996 and the second time in 2002. Madagascar is an amazing collection of very unique sights, well worth a visit. I am looking forward to return to the island, even on holiday.

The following pictures were taken by other pilots, I didn't have a digital camera at the time, and my 35mm pictures are in a box... somewhere!

Tropical...

Huge trees

Rice is the staple food of the island. Rice paddies are found everywhere.

4,828 km of incredibe coastline. Very, very few resorts.

Hole in the wall, not in Transkei

Lemurs. Unique to the island.

Whatcha looking at mate?

A lot of wrecks dot the coastline. Many of the Indian Ocean cyclones hit the island.

Water everywhere

The local taxi rank.

Looking for a meal on the ceiling

A lot of areas suffer from erosing due to slash & burn cultivation. But...

...large areas are still virgin forest.

Final for a coastal airfield.

Multi-colored sunset.
